Residential Development

Planning applications for new residential developments are likely to require a noise impact assessment to demonstrate that future inhabitants are subject to an appropriate noise climate within noise sensitive rooms and, where required, in external amenity areas.

The criteria for appropriate noise levels associated with habitation of a residential dwelling is detailed in BS 8233:2014, Sound insulation and noise reduction for buildings.

Further to this, Professional Practice Guidance ProPG: Planning & Noise – New Residential Development was released in 2017 to improve standards of acoustic design, in-line with the objectives of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF).

Our consultants will undertake noise monitoring to quantify the existing noise environment and where required, consult with the developer to provide an Acoustic Design Statement ensuring that appropriate noise levels are achieved.
